Somerset Farmhouse Bed and Breakfast

Lower manor farm is a 19th century farmhouse bed and breakfast situated in the tranquil hamlet of Thornfalcon, near Taunton in Somerset. Marion and Dave Burt extend a very warm welcome to all guests, offering en-suite and private facilities, traditional breakfasts with fresh farm eggs and the opportunity to meet our resident goat, Gordon.
Thornfalcon is a sleepy hamlet, 10 minutes drive from Taunton and J25 of the M5, which affords easy access to the whole of the south west.

Taunton is in the Vale of Taunton Deane, which is sheltered by the beautiful Quantock, Black Down, and Brendon hills.

History

The Anglo-Saxon king Ine founded Taunton town and built its first castle around 710. The first charter was granted in 904. Taunton's second castle, built early in the 12th century, was three times besieged by Royalists during the English Civil Wars of the mid-17th century. It was subsequently largely dismantled except for its gateway and the great hall where the harsh judge George Jeffreys' infamous Bloody Assizes took place after the Duke of Monmouth's rebellion (1685).
